While the artist still shows up in Search, their songs will be unplayable until users tap the blocked icon on their profile to unblock them. However, if a user decides to block an artist on Spotify, the app automatically grays out all songs by that artist in their artist profile, and doesn't show their music in any playlists. The only way to unhide a song is to go back to the album or playlist where the song was hidden, tap the three dots next to the song, and then tap the ' Hidden' button.
However, if a user searches for that song, it'll still show up in search results, and users can play it like they would any other song. Once a user has hidden a song on a Spotify playlist and album, it will no longer play in that particular album. Unfortunately, there's no way to view a list of all disliked songs and artists on Spotify. Keep enjoying Spotify, rock out the hits, and don't forget to press that dislike/hide button if a stinker comes along. At the very least, this article should have made it easier to understand.
It gets the job done if someone knows where to look, but this is something that Apple Music, YouTube Music, and others have done a better job at. Overall, the act of disliking/hiding songs on Spotify could use some work. Similarly, users can search for an artist, visit their Spotify page, tap the three dots, and tap ' Don't play this artist.' Like the method above, this tells Spotify to not play that artist in any playlists, stations, etc.
This functions a bit differently than hiding songs, with it instead blocking the song from all applicable playlists/stations instead of hiding it from a specific one. Doing so shows a different ' Don't play this song' option. If someone searches for a song on the Search page, they can tap the song and then tap the three dots on the song page. But that's not the only way to dislike songs on Spotify.
